Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass Off (or is that on?) the Hook! - May 11, 2009

Today was our best day of the season! It was a nice, calm morning on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay, and as soon as we got our lines over, it was one striper after another, sometimes two or three at a time! This wonderful group of eleven people had their limit of Chesapeake Bay rockfish before 9am! Just check out what they came away with!
It was kind of tough to get everyone in on this picture, but I think you get the idea! These guys all left very happy, and they already plan to see us again! Mission Accomplished! Check us out on the web at http://www.sawyercharters.com/!

More Chesapeake Bay Fishing for Maryland Rockfish - May 10, 2009

Boy, what a day today was! The weather at the start was awful, with heavy winds almost straight out of the north on the Chesapeake Bay. We had an ebb current that was screaming down the Bay as well. This made things rather difficult. However, when going across the current, we caught four beautiful Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass within the first hour of fishing! Then, after the wind fell out and the current continued to strengthen, there was a lull in the fishing action. However, we waited them out, and within a two hour period, we had our limit of Maryland rockfish. Check out the picture below to see what we came up with.

Some of these fish were over 40 inches long! This is the first time that these guys came down to see us. They have already arranged to see us again, and we can't wait! We still have May 14 available for anyone who wants to try out these massive stripers! For more information, get on over to http://www.sawyercharters.com/!

Maryland Striper Fishing off the Charts! - May 8-9, 2009

The past two days have been red hot for striped bass fishing on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay! Why is it that these blog posts just seem to be carbon copies of each other? I just don't get it! Well anyway, I want to talk about what we did today. Today was a day where the weatherman was screaming for foul weather on the Chesapeake, with heavy southwest winds, and a chance of rain and storms. It turned out to be the exact opposite with very light winds out of the west and sunshine all around. The fishing was every bit as good as the weather in spite of heavy weekend boat traffic. Check out what we did below. The fish on the right was 48" in length, 30" in girth, and weighed 45 pounds! A close-up of this fish can be seen below.
He looks like he is about to drop it at any second! Before the trip, he couldn't understand how we had broken two dipnet handles on recent trips! I think he understands now! We had our limit on these Maryland Chesapeake Bay rockfish by 10am!
The day before that, well, it was the same! We had our limit by around 10:30, on another day where foul weather was predicted, but turned out to be absolutely beautiful. What we did can be seen in the picture below.
Half of the people in this group didn't even realize they were on camera! They were still debating over who caught the biggest fish! They all had a great time and all of them went home with a fish! These are longtime customers and we hope to continue to see them!

Chesapeake Bay Fishing Madness - May 6-7, 2009

It's time once again for some more talk about fishing for striped bass on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay! The fishing is still hot and heavy as can be seen in the pictures below.

The above picture is from yesterday, May 6, 2009. Surprise, surprise! Another full limit of Maryland Striped Bass on the Chesapeake Bay! From a weather standpoint, the day was absolutely beautiful. The Bay was calm all day long. The fishing was slow starting out, with another very hard-running ebb current. Once the current slacked off, the fishing picked up. We had to wait these stripers out today, but between 10am and 1pm, we had our limit. Some of these rockfish, were of pretty good size. The one in the center was 42" long! As you can see, he was having a lot of fun trying to hold onto it! A couple of others in that picture were around 40" long! The picture above shows what happened today. This was the fastest fishing that we've had in quite some time! We had our limit in about one hour! We made one circle out in the Chesapeake Bay, and caught what we needed! As you can see, these are some beautiful Chesapeake Bay striped bass. Hopefully, we will be seeing these guys again sometime soon!

Fishing for Trophy Chesapeake Bay Maryland Striped Bass - May 4-5, 2009

After taking the weekend off, it is time once again for another installment of our adventures, catching trophy rockfish on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay!
In the picture above, you will see what our crew did from yesterday. It was an overcast, foggy day for much of the morning. The current of the Chesapeake Bay was running very hard down the Bay. We caught our first Chesapeake Bay striped bass as we were putting out our lines. We caught another one shortly after we had everything out. Then, it slowed down for quite a while. Then, when the current started to go the other way, and the fog lifted some, we had five lines all go down at once! We landed all of the fish and we had our legal limit of Maryland rockfish before 11am! They all ranged anywhere from 32" to 40" in length! These guys were all very happy when they left and we hope to see them again soon!

The picture above shows what we did today! We got off to a slow start due to a hard-running ebb current and a pretty sharp north wind on the Chesapeake Bay, causing rough sea conditions. However, as soon as the current changed direction, the wind died down, and the fish came alive! Just check out what these happy fishermen came out with! At around 10:30 this morning, we spotted some bait on our fish finder, took a sharp turn, and had three on at one time! Not long after that, we had two more Maryland stripers hook up simultaneously. Then, we gradually picked at it until we had our legal limit of Chesapeake Bay rockfish! As is the case with many of our customers, these are some long-time customers who keep coming back to us year after year. We're looking forward to seeing them again.

For anyone who might be interested in catching some of these mammoth stripers, we still have May 14 available. We do expect to book it, so if you want it, go to http://www.sawyercharters.com/ pronto!

More Chesapeake Bay Fishing Excitement! - Apr. 29-30, 2009

April 29 and April 30, 2009 were just two more exciting days of successfully fishing for striped bass on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay! In the above picture are our newest customers who came out and had a great time with us, and caught their limit of Chesapeake Bay stripers in under two hours! The weather did not cooperate as well as we would have liked, with heavy winds out of the northeast, producing very rough sea conditions, but the captain and crew of the Sawyer overcame this huge obstacle. Just look at what they landed! A couple of those striped bass were 40 inches in length! We hope to see these fine folks again in the future.

The picture above shows what we did on Thursday, April 30. We had the pleasure of taking out some of our long-time customers. These guys have been with us ever since we started up full time in 1999. This was an absolutely perfect day of striper fishing on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. The bay was just like a sheet of glass, as opposed to the day before, yet the fishing was still wide open. These folks had caught their limit before 9am! The striped bass that you see being held up in front of the youngster was 41 inches in length, 23 inches in girth, and weighed 32 pounds! The youngster wound it in with some help, and his father arranged to have the fish mounted by a taxidermist. We're very happy that we were able to give these guys to a good time, and we hope that we will continue to see these guys year after year.

More Fishing for Maryland Chesapeake Bay Striped Bass - Apr. 27-28, 2009

Yeah, you guessed it. More trophy Maryland rockfish caught in the Chesapeake Bay! Just check out these beautiful striped bass. The above picture is from Monday, April 27, 2009. It was another solid day for us, fishing for striped bass on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay! We had to wait them out through the morning, but those fish finally got their act together. As we were getting our lines pulled up to end the day, we had five lines go down at one time! Just check out what these long-time customers came away with! Everybody went home with a fish!

Check out what these guys did today in the picture above, fishing for striped bass on the Chesapeake Bay! The day started out with very calm seas and a hard-flowing flood current. We picked up three trophy stripers right away. Then, as the current slacked up, the fishing petered out a bit. We had a few hits that didn't materialize, but we waited them out. Then, the wind picked up out of the west, and the current started to flow down the Chesapeake Bay. At this point, the fishing picked up big time, and about an hour later, we had our limit! Check out the trophy Maryland rockfish that these guys came home with! The one on the far left was 43 inches long! This is the first time that these guys paid us a visit. We are very hopeful that we will see them again!
