Rockfish on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay - July 24, 2009

Today, the group pictured above left Hoopers Island at about 1:00 in the afternoon, and spent about an hour catching live bait. After that, we went striper fishing. We picked up seven or eight rockfish within the first hour, but then it dried up for a while. We went riding around, looking for them. Every time we'd stop, we'd pick two or three. As the day started to wind down, we found some stripers breaking the water. We stopped on them, and within 20 minutes, we had our legal limit of Chesapeake Bay striped bass! These Maryland rockfish ranged between 18 and 26 inches in length.

Maryland Rockfish on the Chesapeake Bay - July 23, 2009

And, here we have yet another very happy group of fishermen who caught their limit of rockfish on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay! They caught some bait for an hour or two, and then caught their limit of stripers in under an hour! These fish range between 21 and 26 inches in length! The weather was absolutely gorgeous, in spite of showers earlier in the day. This is the first time that these folks have been with us, and we hope to see them back sometime soon.

Chesapeake Bay Bluefish and Croaker Bonanza - July 22, 2009

Today, we went down Maryland's Chesapeake Bay in search of bluefish and croakers. Right away, the bluefish were wide open as we quickly pulled in about a dozen or so. Then, the current stopped running and so did the fish. We waited it out for a while, and then, they turned on again, and before long, we had almost 100 bluefish! We then anchored up for some croaker fishing and came away with about 120 of those! The bluefish were 2-3 pounds each, and the croakers were anywhere between 12 and 16 inches in length!

Striped Bass Fishing on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay - July 21, 2009

Today was another great day of fishing on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay, as the group pictured above left Hoopers Island at around 1 in the afternoon. They caught some bait for a couple of hours, and then proceeded to catch their legal limit of Chesapeake Bay striped bass in under an hour! These Maryland rockfish range between 19 and 26 inches in length! They then did some croaker fishing. The weather was beautiful, the water was calm, and the tide was just right for some great Chesapeake Bay fishing action!

Maryland Striper Fishing Action - July 18, 2009

The Maryland Striper Fishing action is still hot and heavy, as we took another group out on the Chesapeake Bay this afternoon, and had our legal limit of Chesapeake Bay striped bass! We're still catching the rockfish with live bait. On our first drift, we caught 11 stripers. Then, we pulled the anchor and went up the Bay a bit, found another pile, threw some spot into the water, and caught a few more. Over the next couple of hours, we chipped away until we had our limit of 21 Maryland rockfish!

Chesapeake Bay Fishing Report - July 17, 2009

Today was another great day of fishing on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay for striped bass as can be seen from the above picture. This group of five left Hoopers Island at 5am, and ended up catching their legal limit of Maryland rockfish! It was very slow starting out, as there was very little in the way of current moving. However, once the current started running flood, the fishing picked up and as was the case the day before, we went from zero to legal limit in no time!

Later that afternoon, we took a large group of thirteen people out on the Chesapeake Bay for some fun, exciting, Maryland striper fishing action. It was also slow starting out, but later on, we seen piles of breaking rockfish that we chased down and threw live spot into. Over a 2-3 hour stretch, they caught their legal limit and went home happy. No picture as we did get in a bit late.

Fishing for Striped Bass on Maryland's Chesapeake Bay - July 16, 2009

Today, this large group had a whale of a time on the Chesapeake Bay, fishing for Maryland rockfish, using live bait! In all, sixteen people caught their legal limit of Chesapeake Bay striped bass this afternoon. Some of the people in the above picture weren't paying attention because they were arguing over who had the biggest fish! It was a very interesting day, as we were stymied at first by a hard-running ebb current, which kept the spot from getting down deep to where the stripers were. However, once the tide slacked up, the fishing came on strong, and we went from zero to legal limit in about an hour! After that, we went back into the river to catch some more "volunteers" for the next trip! As can be seen from the above picture, this was a very happy group, and we hope to see them again soon.
